Dior Sauvage vs Versace Eros [Compared in 2021]

Clash of Scents: Sauvage vs Eros

In this edition of the cologne comparisons, I have analyzed two scents that are among the best-selling on today’s market, Sauvage by Christian Dior and Versace Eros.

Versace Eros

Main Notes of Eros: mint, green apple, tonka bean, Madagascar vanilla, vetiver, Italian lemon

A classic among men’s colognes, Versace Eros has been one of the most popular and well-loved fragrances for years. It is a sexy minty- fresh and fruity scent that can be worn at night out on clubs or dates.

Dior Sauvage

Main Notes of Sauvage: bergamot, ambroxan, lavender, pepper, wood notes.

Dior Sauvage has a powerful masculine scent that has received countless praises for its sexy and sensual aroma.

Dior Sauvage

This time I’ll compare Versace Eros against Dior Sauvage. Both of these are excellent fragrances for almost every occasion, and both can be worn by anyone who wants their scent appreciated with compliments!

But which one will really make you stand apart from the rest?

Please continue below for my comparison between these two fragrances and find the answer!

Opening

Sauvage has a strong and bold aroma that starts off with pepper, bergamot, and amber. There’s some spicy vibe here but I do get lots of ambroxan as well, and it has a heavy projection!

After a while, it dries down to lavender, vetiver, and patchouli. In the end, Sauvage is a clean masculine scent with some spicy woody notes like pink pepper, ambroxan, and cedar.

Just like Sauvage, Eros has an explosive opening. The first notes to hit your nose are mint, Tonka bean, and vanilla with green apple and lemon bringing in a refreshing fruity quality to complete this masterpiece!

Eros has got everything that you’d want from a modern cologne: fresh minty green apple notes? Check, juicy gourmand lemon paired with rich and sweet Tonka bean? You got it here.

It’s not overpowering yet the opening will grab anyone’s attention. This core element of clean and fresh essence is present throughout the end of this cologne.

Now, Which opening is better?

I think both of these colognes did very well on balancing out the notes. But each of them projects a different vibe. Where Sauvage leans to the sensual spicy citrus route, Eros opts for a refreshing fruity scent. Sauvage is bolder, with a stronger opening and equally sexy scent.

Both of these colognes work in almost every condition. So you can’t really go wrong with any one of them.

Projection and Longevity

If you are looking for a strong, long-lasting scent that will not be overwhelmed by other scents in the room then either Dior Sauvage or Versace Eros is going to do the job perfectly.

Both of them has great projection and can cut through your surroundings like it’s nobody’s business, making yourself stand out from everyone else around!

Versace Eros is one of the most powerful and long-lasting fragrances in the market. In winter, it is on par with Dior Sauvage. It projects heavily and that can cut through any other scent in your room with ease–plus you’ll be the center of attention because this stuff smells so good!

On the other hand, Sauvage is a bold, heavy scent and loud as hell. This could scare some folks off from wanting to wear it, but the EDP version is much smoother and easier on the nose.

I personally love Dior Sauvage better than Eros because while they both last for a long amount of time on me, Sauvage’s performance is just mind-blowing.

If you really want a head-to-head, Both of these are going to give you the same range of performance. Although depending on the weather, one might have a slight edge over the other. In summer, Sauvage will perform better and when it’s cold outside, Eros will project heavily and will last longer.

Compliment Factor

Well, Sauvage is undoubtedly the compliment king.

But Versace Eros puts up a tough competition here. I got compliments every time I tested this bad boy both from men and women. But you’re probably more interested in hearing about the female reactions; trust me—you won’t be disappointed!

The minty fresh scent is like an elixir which can be described ad ‘Love At First Sight.’

The combination of apple, mint, and vanilla in Eros is just divine, and especially if you’re a young guy, you can rock this cologne in clubs and parties and girls will notice you wearing this, that’s sure.

But, Sauvage has an edge here that almost every type of women will be attracted by this scent. I first purchased a decant and it got myself complements like never before. So after that I didn’t wait anymore to grab the full bottle!

If you’re in the same room as someone wearing this fragrance, you will stand out from all other generic scents. Everyone who has smelled Dior Savage’s signature aroma gave compliments on how good the smell is.

So, for complements, any of these two scents will work. I’d say Sauvage is more popular and mass appealing. But If you prefer a more refreshing and energetic choice, go with Versace Eros.

Versatility

Eros and Sauvage are both great fragrances for different occasions.

Eros is a winter scent and Sauvage works better during warmer months. But both colognes would be appropriate for different occasions, like attending a party or work where you need to impress those around you.

In terms of clubbing though I think Eros has more going on that makes it best suited to this lifestyle whereas with Sauvage if you don’t overspray you could wear it just about anywhere.

Eros works well with parties or date nights. It is a sexy, young scent that can be used for both day and night wear. It also has excellent projection and longevity.

However, Dior Sauvage might better suit older adults because its heavier than some scents marketed more specifically at younger generations.

Versace Eros is An energetic and refreshing cologne that will make you feel like the most attractive man in any room.

The projection, longevity (both on your skin as well as clothing), superlative quality–it has it all! But if we’re talking about versatility then Dior Sauvage wins this competition hands down: not only can be used day or night but also for more mature ages than Versace- which mostly appeals towards a younger crowd.

In terms of seasons, both of these have their strength and weakness. Sauvage is a beast on warm weather whereas Eros works like a charm on cold Winter and Fall days.

So, What’s the bottom line?

The youthful and sexy Eros has long been a favorite of men all over the world, but if you’re looking for something with more versatility that can be used during day or night and in every occasion–Dior Sauvage is your best choice. It’s not only versatile in its use but also suitable for mature ages above 25 years old!

Value For Money

It’s not just about how expensive a perfume smells; it also has to do with why we buy them.

You want something that will last all day or at least multiple hours and still smell good afterwards, in which case both Sauvage and Eros will be equal!

But which one will provide more value for your money?

Well, Eros is the clear winner here. As a 3.4 fl oz bottle of Eros is almost a $100 cheaper than the same bottle of Sauvage.

So, you can get 2 full bottles of Versace with the price of a single Sauvage, or a bottle that’s twice the size of Dior’s premium cologne.

Here’s our ultimate comparison of Acqua di Gio Profumo vs Profondo

Make no mistake, Eros isn’t a cheapie either. But if you’re looking for an affordable cologne under $100, you should pick Eros.

Although, Sauvage’s higher price means a more premium and high-quality juice.

In the end, Eros is cheaper and provides more value. But Sauvage’s price point is justified too. Even if you have the budget for Sauvage, buying a bigger bottle of Versace Eros would be the better deal in my opinion.

Overall Scent

Looking for an incredible fragrance to wear each and every day? Dior Sauvage is just the one you’re looking for. It has the potential to become your signature scent.

If you’re a young guy, Eros could easily become your signature scent. But if you want something more mature, I’d suggest going for Sauvage as it has practically become the signature of every sensual masculine fragrance.

But there is a problem with Sauvage. See, the DNA of this citrus masculine ambroxan scent has been replicated in so many colognes in the market that it has become a very familiar smell. Even some big names in the fragrance industry has made colognes inspired by Dior Sauvage.

Here, Sauvage is a better signature scent for any gentleman. But if you belong to gen-z, Versace Eros might suit you better.

Our Final Verdict

A Designer fragrance like Versace Eros of Dior Sauvage can enrich your collection with its signature scent.

If you’re looking for something strong enough that will attract compliments from all women around town then look no further than Dior Savage… it’s suitable also just about any age group–from teens right up into mature gentleman territory.

For an average customer, Dior is more than enough as a signature scent. It’s instantly recognizable and will get compliments.

If I had to choose between these two, I would ultimately pick Dior Sauvage. It is more attractive, mature, and it’s just a and balanced cologne. The price is slightly less than Sauvage which gives it an edge.

The choice is in Your Hands

The question of which fragrance is best on paper might be a difficult one to answer. But in the end, it’s about which scent you prefer; and which fragrance fits your personality.

So If I had to choose between Dior Sauvage and Versace Eros, I’d say it ultimately depends on your personal preference.

Since both of these colognes are massively popular, I’d suggest getting decant or sample bottles of them and try out on yourself to see which one you like the most. Then you can commit for the full bottle.
