Versace Eros’s fresh, slightly oriental, and woody nuance made it my husband’s one of the favorite colognes. Recently, he got another branded scent, Ultra Male by JPG.
Since he was wearing both of them frequently, I wanted to emphasize their different features and discovered multiple variations.
In this context, I will compare Versace Eros and Ultra Male in detail regarding their formulation, price, service, and many more.
So, keep up to enrich your fragrance game.
Clash Of Scents: Versace Eros Vs Ultra Male
Versace Eros
Main Notes: Mint, Green Apple, Lemon, Tonka Bean, Ambroxan, Geranium, Vanilla, Virginian Cedar, Atlas Cedar, Vetiver, Oakmoss
Named after Eros, the Greek god of love, Versace Eros certainly exhibits unrestrained passion. Aurelien Guichard left no stone unturned to make this scent a true example of popularity, addiction, and performance while maintaining the DNA of the House of Versace.
Eros starts with a fresh aura, and slowly, the warmer vibe shows up along with its fougere twist.
With a few sprays, this long-lasting cologne will draw attention towards you.
That’s not the end. Even its turquoise color glass flacon is inspired by ancient Greece and deserves praise. It has the head of Medusa on the body and on top of the cap. Such elegant and statement packaging!
It’s not easy to mimic this charismatic bottle, but you will find many fragrances that smell similar to Versace Eros on the market.
Ultra Male Jean Paul Gaultier
Main Notes: Pear, Lavender, Mint, Bergamot, Lemon, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Caraway, Black Vanilla Husk, Amber, Patchouli, Cedar
Ultra Male is Jean Paul Gaultier’s one of the best colognes. Its smooth, addicting smell is a reason for that. Francis Kurkdjian crafted this projection beast in 2015.
Though it’s the updated version of the 95’s original La Male, its masculine, delicate, and intense formulation paved the way to the top.
Ultra Male gives a blast of freshness. Then, slowly, the spicy, sweet hunch will enchant you along with a richer, earthy composition, which lasts around 12 long hours.
This JPG scent comes in a dark blue bottle with black stripes. Other than that, the flacon structure is the same as the previous scents of this brand.
Now that you know what makes these colognes special, it’s time to see the differences between Versace Eros & Ultra Male:
Opening
Though there are overlapping notes at the top, both colognes smell pretty different.
Ultra Male by Jean Paul Gaultier is more light and fresh as it combines the tangy nuance of bergamot and lemon with lavender’s herbal tone and sweet, aquatic pear.
On the contrary, in Versace Eros, I got the sweet, delicate smell of green apple which further tunes with the spicy undertone of mint and the sour, cheerful ambiance of lemon. This peppery-sweet mixture is both my husband’s and mine’s favorite.
So, in terms of opening, Versace Eros is the winner among the two scents.
Projection And Longevity
When you’re choosing between two fragrances, how the smell will project and for how long the aroma will last ー are crucial factors.
Eros by Versace has a longer life span. My husband said with a few pumps, he got 10 to 12 hours of undivided service. And on his clothes, it lasted even more.
Additionally, it spreads up to 6 feet, and those who are in between that distance feel his presence.
Inversely, Ultra Male JPG is also a prolonged-lasting fragrance. After one application, it will serve for a solid 8 to 10 hours.
Its projection is also notable as it radiates strongly up to 5 feet.
Neither of these colognes will quit on you in the middle of the day. But if I have to choose one, I will go for Versace Eros as its performance is better than Ultra male.
Compliment Factor
It’s vital to focus on a nerve-soothing fragrance rather than a popular one because people will remember you or your perfume’s impact on them.
Ultra Male Eau de Toilette Intense is bound to get compliments as its notes are well-blended and give an inviting aura. Its transition from fresh to a soft, gourmand tone is certainly attractive.
My husband recently wore it at an event, and his friends asked him about his cologne.
Conversely, Versace’s Eros smells incredibly self-satisfying from opening to base. And its spicy hint, along with smoother, woody notes, is the master stroke of this scent.
Whether it’s an office gathering, clubbing, or family dinner, my husband gets praised every time.
I’m not even kidding. When I applied it, people from far away were looking at me, and their expressions said it was not for my outfit but for the aroma.
Now, the question is, which cologne is more flattering?
From my experience, I will vote for Versace Eros in the sector of compliment factor as it got more praise than Ultra Male.
Versatility
When a fragrance is not bound to a season, time, or weather, it is the kind of scent I will go for. So, I always check the flexibility before getting them. My husband does the same.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s Ultra Male is a versatile cologne. Its effortless blend is suitable enough to carry in colder winter and fall nights. And it is wearable even in the spring.
It also holds up better in warmer weather, but doesn’t smell very pleasant during the summer heatwave.
On the flip side, Versace Eros EDT, with its stress relief property, is an excellent option for every season. Whether you are attending a casual event or hanging out in autumn, spring, and winter with friends, this cologne will not disappoint you.
My husband also uses it in summer sometimes, and it doesn’t become overwhelming.
Therefore, it’s a tie between Ultra Male and Eros as they both are similarly versatile and serve better.
Value For Money
One of the wisest decisions before getting a cologne is to check its price range. And when it’s a designer scent, it’s a must.
Ultra Male EDT comes in three different sizes. The smallest is 75 ml, which costs $94. My partner got the 125 ml flacon, which costed around $120, and there is 200 ml at 152 dollars. So, evidently, this scent doesn’t fall in the cheap category.
But remember, these prices change from time to time and when there is a sale for any specific event or holiday.
In contrast, Eros by Versace is comparatively cost-effective. Because its 50 ml bottle is $75, 100 ml is around 96 dollars, my husband got the 200 ml bottle at $130.
Versace Eros is the winner of value for money with its better performance, opening, and overall note composition.
Overall Scent
Without knowing the overall note formulation and how they smell at different stages, it’s not wise to buy a fragrance, let alone a designer cologne.
JPG Ultramale opens with a refreshing blast where the most prominent ingredients are bergamot, mint, and pear for a sweet touch. The addition of lavender makes this top more refined and herbal.
In the middle, I picked up the clary sage and cinnamon’s spicy sweetness the most. But my husband also got caraway’s sharp, sweet hunch that I failed to smell.
Vanilla and amber are the highlights of the dry-down, and to me, this is delicious, though my husband prefers the merging of earthy-smelling patchouli and woody cedar with these warm, delightful tones.
Meanwhile, Versace Eros offers a mood-lifting top. Here, I love the sour smell of lemon blending with the stimulating, spicy tint of mint and mouth-watering apple.
The core melted my heart the moment I sensed the nutty-ambery mixture of tonka bean and ambroxan tunes with geranium’s rosy nuance. The base elevates its woody, prominent aroma when the core fades away.
Eros got to my husband’s heart through the harmonious mixture of vanilla with cedar and oakmoss. Vetver’s clean, ethereal smell takes this dry down to a different level.
So, without any doubt, Eros by Versace has the upper hand when it comes to overall scent due to its heart-melting top-to-bottom note arrangement.
Final Verdict
Versace Eros and Ultra Male are both outstanding men’s colognes with huge fan bases.
If you wanna smell like a million bucks without breaking your bank, get Eros, and you will also get compliments, better longevity, projection, and a wonderful experience in one package!
Ultra Male will be right up your alley if you want an addictive yet smooth aura with notable trail, lasting capability, and versatility.
