Written By John Carter

Versace Eros is one of the best clubbing fragrances out there. Naturally, other houses have tried to replicate it’s energetic and youthful scent.

But, what colognes smell similar to Versace Eros?

Let me come to the rescue! I tested Versace Eros and other alternatives on myself to help you find the colognes that smell most like Eros.

Read on to find the one you prefer. If you’re in a hurry, go with the Editor’s choice. You won’t regret it.

5 Best Versace Eros Clones [Tested by Experts in 2021]

What Fragrances Smell Similar to Versace Eros

Versace Eros was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is Aurelien Guichard. Top notes of Eros are Mint, Green Apple and Lemon; middle notes are Tonka Bean, Ambroxan and Geranium, and the  base notes are Madagascar Vanilla, Virginian Cedar, Atlas Cedar, Vetiver and Oakmoss.

Shortly after it’s release, Versace Eros was hailed as one of the best Clubbing scents for men. This fresh and woody scent has an exotic oriental vibe that is daring and adventurous-just like you.

Eros features a crisp and refreshing touch of mint oil embraced by fruity green apple and italian lemon. You’ll also with memorable notes of geranium flowers and ambroxan in a warm and sensuous medley that clings to your skin all day, which makes this cologne a top choice for a wild night out.

Many fragrances have tried to replicate this fresh energetic formula of Eros, But I only carefully choose the ones that are worth your hard-earned money.

Versace Eros

So, here are the best alternatives of Versace Eros:

Oxford Bleu English Laundry – Closest Smelling Eros Clone

Oxford Bleu English Laundry

Top notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Ginger, Violet leaf, Blackcurrant
Middle notes: Jasmine, Iris, Rose
Base notes: Sandalwood, Musk, Ambroxan, Cedar.

While Versace Eros is more suited for millenials, Oxford bleu english laundry is perfect for older people who want to experience a minty fresh energizing cologne. This fragrance is like the Father of Versace Eros, having a refined and grown up vibe to the scent.

When you sniff Oxford Bleu for the first time, you’ll immediately think of Versace Eros because of the crisp Green apple and Lemon Opening. It’s almost exactly like Eros, like 90% similar.

But I noticed that the mint note is in the background here, rather than being “on the face” like eros. This is why Oxford Bleu felt more smoother and pleasant.

After a while, the scent starts to smell more like eros due to similar notes. It’s sweet and creamy. Well, after opening this cologne gets really creamy, I’d say, due to the iris and vanilla note.

Looking for something different? Then check out Tom Ford Oud Wood Clones

It felt like a vanilla cream frosting with hints of apple and mint. Here, the sweetness from Tonka bean and geranium combined with iris gives the middle a powdery-candy feel.

Once the drydown starts it’s practically impossible to find a difference between oxford blue and eros. They’re both creamy, spicy and woody. The dryden in Oxford bleu is incredibly masculine and more mature than eros.

The only con for me was the performance. It doesn’t last as long as eros. But, for the first 3 hours it projected nicely before settling on the skin for another 3-5 hours. If you spray in clothes it’ll last longer.

Well, If you’re still not sure, then compare the prices of these and you’ll lean into oxford bleu.

Sure, it doesn’t give the level of playfulness that Eros is famous for. But it also doesn’t have the edgy vibe of eros that might be inoffensive to some people.

Insted, this one is suitable for all ages, especially for people over 30. I’d highly recommend this over eros. Trust me, The elegant blue colored bottle and a clean, fruity and creamy matured version of Versace’s highly praised scent will result in you getting lots of compliments.

WHEN TO WEAR:

I’d say Oxford bleu is suitable for Spring, Fall and early winter days. It’s perfect for those days when the weather isn’t too hot or too cold but right in between.

For me, what gives oxford bleu the edge over eros is it’s versatility. Since the scent is toned down and smoother, you can wear it on Office too beside casual occasions.

It’ll pair nicely with a dress wear on a gentleman, which I can’t say about versace eros.

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY:

  • Compliments getter.
  • Versatile cologne for all occasions.
  • Lucrative shiny bottle.
Better juice quality than other clones.

Guess 1981 Los Angeles – Budget Eros Clone

Guess 1981 Los Angeles

Top notes: bergamot and pepper.
Middle notes: coal, metallic notes, watery notes, soil, and lavender.
Base notes: ambroxan and patchouli.

This cologne is a recent launch from Guess and it’s like an inspired creation rather than a 1:1 replica. But, this one has an insanely low price tag compared to eros so grab this if you’re short on budget.

To me, Guess 1981 felt like a fusion of versace eros and its recent flanker “Eros Flame”

You’re still getting the familiar fruity opening, only here plum is used instead of apple. There’s noticeable bergamot and pepper too. It is different from eros, I’d say.

But, after that these two started to smell alike because of the Mint note. In Guess 1981, all i got in the middle was mint and geranium. At this point, this Cologne was the closest to smelling like Versace eros.

In drydown the mint stays in the background while the sweet fresh vibe evolves into a warm, and woody scent. Amber and tobacco dominate here, and with sandalwood in the mix this feels like a Smokey version of Eros. Which makes guess 1981 an even more desirable scent than the versace cologne.

Also, you can check out Creed Millesime Imperial Clones

I got many compliments after wearing this from both men and women, easily on par with eros.

Still not sure? Then look at the price vs performance and you’ll have no doubt that this is the best affordable clone of eros for your money. It lasts upto 8 hours with strong projection for the first 3-4.

WHEN TO WEAR:

Guess 1981 for me is a Winter and Fall night scent. It’s not as loud as eros so it’s perfect for dates and other formal occasions. But I’d recommend not to wear this on hot summer days as the tobacco note might be overwhelming.

Pair this with a jacket on cold nights and see how the blend of plum, mint, amber and tobacco work their magic and turn the ladies attention to you.

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY :

  • Excellent performance.
  • Compliments getter.
  • Versatile cologne for all occasions.
  • Top value deal for the price.
  • Luxurious bottle design.

Police To Be Rebel – Underrated Alternative

Police To Be Rebel

Top notes: apple and lavender.
Middle notes: coriander and black pepper.
Base notes: tonka bean and labdanum.

For all the teenagers and gen z kids out there, this cologne is for you. Police rebel’s blue skull shaped bottle with a red cap looks tacky and the scent feels even more younger than Versace Eros, somehow.

This to me seems like a fruity, sweet, and aquatic take on Eros. The openings smell alike, although police rebel is fruitier and spicy due to grapefruit, black pepper and nutmeg.

And don’t worry about the freshness. The initial spray has violet leaves so you’ll find a cool soothing fresh tone of eros here as well. But it’s light and softer than versace, which i preferred.

In Drydown, this cologne goes in the aquatic direction with sea notes. Apart from Versace, this also reminded me of another top men’s fragrance, Invictus by Paco Rabaanne.

Finally, amberwood, musk and vetiver give the base a woody and clean masculine vibe that eros is known for.

For the price that I paid, I was happy with the 6 hour longevity and moderate projection. This is in the same category of casual clubbing colognes as Versace eros. And considering the scent and affordability, this is a steal in my opinion

A TIP:  Police Rebel can be a great gift if you have a teenage son or a nephew within 25 years of age. Trust me, they’ll love this type of bottle design and the sweet fresh aquatic scent.

WHEN TO WEAR:

This cologne is a Spring and Fall scent.

For me, this feels more suitable for casual times, like hanging out with your buddies and club parties are the ideal occasion to wear this and get compliments from the girls.

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY :

  • Elegant fragrance.
  • Inoffensive and versatile scent.

Montblanc Legend Night – High-End Premium Scent

Montblanc Legend Night

Top notes: grapefruit, fig leaves, bergamot, and watery notes.
Middle notes: ambroxan, black pepper, patchouli, papyrus, and violet leaves.
Base notes: saffron, tonka bean, incense, and musk.

Out of all the clones here, this has the most premium price tag.

But, is it worth the price when you can add a bit more to get versace eros?

Let’s find out.

Well, right after the first sniff, you’ll notice the similarities. It smells like an enhanced version of Eros, with exact notes like apple and mint paired with cardamom and bergamot. To me, it felt like a divine mix of La Nuit de L’Homme and Versace Eros.

This resemblance continues in the middle too, here apple note tangles with florals like lavender and violet to create a sweet powdery smell.

Lastly, the usp of montblanc legend is the dark and rich vanilla drydown. It’s very seductive and lasts for hours, all the while capturing the creamy essence of Versace Eros. Along with this, Wood, musk and vetiver add incredible depth to the already masculine scent.

Follow our guide for Creed Aventus Alternatives

However, I was disappointed with the performance. Lasted like 5-6 hours on me with moderate projection. I expected much more from this EDP cologne.

Still, this is a great alternative of Versace Eros if you’re a bit older for that cologne. For people between age 25 to 40, this is more suitable than Eris due to the elegant and mature tone of the scent.

WHEN TO WEAR:

Just Like Eros, this is ideal for cold Winter and Fall nights. An advantage over Eros is that Montblanc can be used in office too as the scent is lighter and more pleasing.

So this is a solid option for a gentleman looking for an Eros like cologne.

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY:

  • Fresh and opening.
  • It can be layered with perfume oil.

Anonymous by Thallium – Cheapest Alternative

Anonymous by Thallium

NOTES: Pine, Patchouli, Lavender, Geranium, Bergamot, Lemon, Vetiver, Orange.

This cologne from the House of Ajmal got a lot of attention recently as a budget clone of Dior Sauvage, And I had to check it out as it’s the cheapest out of all the colognes reviewed here.

To my surprise, it turned out to be a really good clone of Dior Sauvage.

Right after spraying, the fruity ambroxan vibe was similar to Sauvage’s opening. But the peppery kick is entirely missing here. Instead, I got a burst of pine mixed with lavender and patchouli. It’s a natural green-floral type of scent, easier on the nose. However, it doesn’t have the depth of Sauvage’s unforgettable drydown.

Look, there are dome things absent here, like the pepper and ambroxan note. And this is certainly not as refined as Sauvage. But for 25 bucks, you are getting a fresh woody masculine scent that smells like Dior’s best-selling cologne, and I think that is a deal no one should miss.

However, I was disappointed with the performance. The max I got from Zeal EDP was 3-4 hours with moderate projection. After that, it becomes a skin scent.

I would suggest reapplying in the middle of the day for it to perform better.

WHEN TO WEAR:

This cheapie is ideal for Summer and Spring. But you can use it as a go-to backup cologne for any time of the year.

Surprisingly, Ajmal Zeal doesn’t have any synthetic vibe that’s common in low-price Ajmal colognes. So you can wear it in both casual and formal settings.

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY:

  • Inexpensive Versace Eros clone.
  • Excellent underrated fragrance.
  • Long-lasting and complement getter
  • Strong fruity opening.

Final Thoughts

Versace Eros is one of the most popular colognes out there among the youth, So it was tough to select the best Eros clones. I hope you will find a fragrance here that suits you.

Personally, I’d go with Oxford Bleu English Laundry, But If you want to save some money and still get a good deal, I’d suggest to either go for Guess 1981 Los Angeles or Anonymous by Thallium.
