Terre d'Hermes Vs. H24: [Ultimate Hermes Comparison 2024]

Written By John Carter

It is no secret that Hermes is a highly popular designer brand. Besides their massively successful bags and purses, they also create fragrances – some of which are absolute stunners.

Today, I will compare a classic Hermes perfume with another one of their scents that came out recently.

If you are looking to buy a Hermes scent or have a keen interest in designer scents, I suggest you read till the end to know which one is the champion between Terre d’Hermes and H24.

Terre d'Hermes Vs. H24

Clash of Scents: Terre d’Hermes Vs. H24

Terre d’Hermes by Hermès

Main Notes: Orange, Grapefruit, Pepper, Pelargonium, Flint, Vetiver, Cedar, Patchouli and Benzoin.

Terre d’Hermes by Hermès was launched in 2006. Ever since its release, it has gained an incredible number of admirers owing to its spicy, woody, sensual aroma.

It is curated by Jean-Claude Ellena and has a unique blend of notes, including citruses, spices and grounding bases.

Terre d'Hermes

This masculine scent has gained this perfume the 2007 FiFi Award Fragrance Of The Year. Moreover, even more than 15 years after its release, it still remains one of the most loved men’s fragrances.

H24 by Hermès

Main Notes: Clary Sage, Palisander Rosewood, Narcissus, Sclarene.

H24 by Hermès is unlike Terre d’Hermes, not only in scent. This fragrance was launched only recently, in 2021.

Created by Christine Nagel, this perfume has a distinctive concoction of its own. The blend of rare notes such as clary sage and sclarene gives it its uniqueness.

h24

This aromatic fragrance is surely new to the market, but will it beat the iconic Hermes Terre d’Hermes? Which one is superior to them in terms of performance and scent?

To know all the answers, keep reading.

So, here is a thorough comparison between Terre d’Hermes and Hermes H24:

Opening

The opening of these two perfumes is distinctly different. While one has a citrusy, spicy opening, the other is rather tropical at the beginning.

In the case of Terre d’Hermes, during the opening, there is a prominent orange note that has a tangy quality. This is followed by a grapefruit note that is tangy but also very bitter.

A note of spicy black pepper and a mineral scent is also present, in addition to the bitterness that is rather pronounced.

On the other hand, the opening of H24 clearly lacks the spiciness of Terre d’Hermes. Sage is prominently featured in the opening of H24.

A metallic note accompanies the sage and contributes in some way to the one-of-a-kind quality of the aroma. It has less of the typical scent of mineral oil and more of an authentic metallic odor.

However, this herbal opening is not commonly detected by everyone.

Some people say that they smell tropical fruits when H24 opens; it tends to lean towards a mango or banana blended scent that is quite unique for men’s colognes.

So, which opening do I prefer?

To be honest, even though H24 is rather distinct and pleasant, I like the opening of the classic Terre d’Hermes much better.

Projection and Longevity

It is no question that the performance of Hermes colognes is quite impressive. They last for quite a long time and have decent sillage.

Terre d’Hermes has a powerful sillage when it comes to projection. The projection is not particularly strong, but it is still pretty great.

During this most recent round of testing, I found that this scent has excellent performance, and its longevity lasted for more than 8 hours.

When it comes to H24, the performance is, again, quite good.

H24 has moderate sillage when compared to that of d’Hermes. The sillage is decent, but it is not remarkable by any standards. Moreover, the longevity is also somewhat less than d’Hermes.

It lasts for around 4 to 6 hours on my skin, which is way less when compared to Terre d’Hermes.

So, it is quite evident that when it comes to performance, Terre d’Hermes has the upper hand over H24 in terms of both longevity and projection.

Compliment Factor

It is logical to compare the compliment factor of the two scents, given that we all enjoy being told that we smell wonderful.

H24 and Terre d’Hermes feature strong projection and sillage, ensuring they attract the most attention possible. On the other hand, the two scents’ complimentary potential can be different.

Because it is so potent and may often be overwhelming, some people find the scent of Terre d’Hermes harsh when they enter a space containing it. On the other hand, H24 is less intrusive while retaining its pleasant aroma.

Nonetheless, because the renowned d’Hermès has an exceptionally full and well-developed scent, I’ve seen that people appreciate it more and that wearing it brings up a greater number of praises.

Which of these fragrances do I think is going to garner you more compliments?

Well, I believe Terre d’Hermes will garner you more applause than H24.

Versatility

When purchasing a designer fragrance, considering the scent’s versatility is very important because you want to make the most out of the fragrance you are getting.

In terms of usability, I found a huge gap between the two colognes we are comparing.

H24 is adaptable and quite likable. It is a great choice for casual outings and work, especially in the daytime. Moreover, it is perfect for summer and spring. You can find some use for it in the fall.

However, it has very low potential when it comes to winter. It’s unsuitable for the cooler season and formal events. I also wouldn’t recommend wearing it to nighttime events.

On the other hand, the adaptability of the d’Hermès fragrance is one of the perfume’s best attributes.

Because of its fresh, citrus-and-woodsy perfume, it is appropriate for a variety of settings, including work, casual wear, formal situations, and so on. Terre d’Hermes is a fragrance that is versatile enough to be used on a daily basis and performs admirably in almost every climate.

Hence, when it comes to versatility, Terre d’Hermes is again the superior cologne between itself and H24.

Value For Money

Now that we’ve covered the basics let’s speak about the money side of things: how much does each of these perfumes cost, and which one offers the best value for the money?

For a fair comparison, I took the prices of their bottles from the same website – Sephora.

On their official website, Terre d’Hermès Eau de Toilette is available in 3 sizes, and the prices are as follows, 1.6 oz/ 47 mL costs $91, 3.3 oz/ 98 mL costs $128, and 6.7 oz or 198 mL costs $173.

In the case of H24 Eau de Toilette, it is available in 2 sizes. The 1.6 oz/ 47 mL- bottle costs $82, and the 3.3 oz/ 98 mL bottle costs $107.

So, if you compare the prices, it is quite evident that H24 is slightly less expensive than Terre d’Hermes. But does this mean it offers greater value? I don’t think so.

Since the difference in price is marginal, I believe Terre d’Hermes provides greater value for the money since it has better usability and performance.

Moreover, the value size of 6.7 oz offers the fragrance at an excellent price. Therefore, if you enjoy the aroma, you will receive your money’s worth from purchasing it.

So, when it comes to value for money, I think Terre d’Hermes is once again the better choice.

Overall Scent

When it comes to the overall scent of Terre d’Hermes, I will say that it develops really well.

Even though it has a lot of pepper in it, it also has a significant amount of patchouli, and the combination of cedar and vetiver smells incredibly clean and nice.

On top of all of that is the orange note, which at this stage is less abrasive than it was previously.

In the end, it has an aroma of citrus with a peculiar mineral note in the background, along with spicy pepper, vetiver, and some cedar that is still there.

The smell of H24 is not very difficult to understand. Nevertheless, I believe it is a good one and takes things on a far different path than most designer men’s cologne.

Underneath the opening sage and metallic aroma, narcissus plays the lead role. Providing the H24 blend with a pleasant scent of flowers.

There appears to be a bit of sweetness here coming from a fruity source. The chemical components give the impression that there is some lemon mixed in with the flower.

After some time has passed, it appears like the narcissus is pulling away. Rosewood serves as the foundation, in addition to a certain dry woodiness.

Even though it is not significantly potent, it is quite likable.

But which one would I say has the best overall scent?

I think both perfumes are great and have unique, pleasant attributes. However, if I had to pick, I would say that Terre d’Hermes is by far the winner.

Final Verdict

When it comes to Hermes fragrances, Terre d’Hermes is an undeniable icon and H24, despite being relatively new, is also a big hit.

After comparing their scents, performance, adaptability and all other attributes, I think it is fair to conclude that Terre d’Hermes is the clear winner in this case.

Its spicy masculine aroma is top-class and leaves no doubt regarding its fame.

However, since they are both excellent perfumes with two completely different styles, I think they are both worth the try and worth the buy.

So, whichever perfume you choose to go for, I see it as a win-win situation. Nonetheless, if I had the choice, I would undoubtedly go for Terre d’Hermes.
