Clash of Scents: BR540 Vs. Aventus

Baccarat Rouge 540

Main Notes: Saffron, Jasmine, Amberwood, Ambergris, Fir Resin and Cedar

Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian was launched in 2015 and has gained rapid popularity since then. It is a unisex fragrance, but I would say it leans more toward the feminine side.

It is an amber floral fragrance and smells absolutely heavenly.

Baccarat-Rouge-540

It has a cozy, soothing, and slightly sweet feel to it. It’s challenging to identify any particular note in the mixture of jasmine, saffron, cedarwood, and fir resin, as they are blended so well.

Creed Aventus

Main Notes: Pineapple, Bergamot, Black Currant, Apple, Birch, Patchouli, Moroccan Jasmine, Rose, Musk, oak moss, Ambergris and Vanille

Aventus by Creed was launched in 2010 and created by Jean-Christophe Hérault and Erwin Creed. It is a fruity, chypre, masculine scent that also became a huge success, like BR540.

The fragrance combines a woody aroma with enticing fresh and citrus notes, creating a smokey, well-rounded fragrance that is incredibly seductive.

Creed Aventus

Here is thorough comparison between Baccarat Rouge 540 and Creed Aventus:

Opening

As it opens, saffron and jasmine are front and center in the beginning, with Baccarat Rouge. It smells fresh and sweet and has a hint of lemon and jasmine, giving it a pleasant freshness.

Underlying those are the wood and amber notes, which give this an initial energizing and resin-like feel that only gets stronger as the scent develops. So, overall the opening and how the scent settles feels quite nice to me.

On the other hand, Creed Aventus starts off robust with pineapple, bergamot, and black currant notes. Due to these powerful notes and the birch’s aridity, the opening feels fairly overwhelming.

Nonetheless, as the scent develops, I start to enjoy how it smells. Gradually, you get more birch wood and oak moss and less pineapple. The lingering apple note is also there, along with some vanilla sweetness.

Eventually, it becomes very delightful to wear, being vibrant and fresh.

However, between the two, I would say that I like the opening of Baccarat Rouge 540 much better than the opening of Aventus. So, in this case, BR540 is the topper for me.

Projection and Longevity

When it comes to projection, both of these scents have powerful beginnings. However, the majority of what distinguishes them is the sillage later in the wear.

Baccarat Rouge features a strong potent opening and a steady middle section, and gradually it becomes mostly light and breezy. Although it lingers, its presence isn’t as heavy.

On the other hand, from my observations,  Aventus achieves a high sillage at the beginning and sustains the sillage for a longer time. Additionally, it will continue to be strong for a longer period of time than BR540.

However, when it comes to longevity, the case is different. BR540 seems to last anywhere from 9 to 12 hours on my skin, whereas I have observed the length of stay for Aventus to be around 10 hours max.

Even though their longevity is very similar and the potency of Aventus is steady for longer, BR540 seems to linger for a prolonged period as compared to the Creed option.

So, what’s the conclusion when it comes to projection and longevity?

I believe Creed Aventus has stronger projection and sillage, while Baccarat Rouge 540 has better longevity.

Compliment Factor

Let’s face it, we all love receiving compliments and getting asked what perfume we are wearing because it’s so good. Well, when comparing the compliment factor of BR540 and Aventus, I noticed that there is a clear winner.

Even though they are both excellent fragrances with remarkable performances, Creed’s Aventus seems to catch people’s attention significantly more.

Compared to Baccarat Rouge 540, Aventus will get you more compliments because even though the smell may be overbearing at the beginning, it develops beautifully and stays strong throughout. As a result, it gets more people to notice your fragrance and garners more compliments.

So, between the two, Aventus is going to get you more compliments.

Versatility

When contrasting these two perfumes, versatility is an interesting factor to consider. Both Aventus and BR540 are the kinds of scents that are wearable almost everywhere.

Compared to the normally more masculine Aventus, Baccarat Rouge 540 is significantly more of a unisex scent. It is, therefore, more adaptable and versatile in that regard.

However, Aventus is more versatile in terms of the seasons because it can endure the heat while still being able to withstand the cold.

So, even though Aventus can be worn in more seasons, I believe Baccarat Rouge 540 is more versatile because it appeals to a wider range of people as it can be worn by both men and women, and much like Aventus, it can be worn to almost any sort of event.

Value For Money

When comparing two perfumes, comparing their prices is also very important in deciding which one is giving you a better value for money. In this case, both perfumes are high-end niche fragrances and are quite costly.

Baccarat Rouge 540 is mainly available in 3 sizes, 35 ml costs $121.51, 70 ml costs $209, and 200 ml costs $413.14.

On the contrary, Creed Aventus is available in 4 sizes, 50 ml costs $365, 100 ml costs $495, 250 ml costs $775, and 500 ml costs $1,260.

So, as you can see, both of these fragrances are very expensive. Moreover, since they are not available in the same sizes, comparing the price can seem tough. But if you take the price per ml into consideration, you will notice that BR540 is much lower in price than Aventus.

Since BR540 smells wonderful, and has an excellent performance, much like Aventus, but costs much less than the latter, I would say that Baccarat Rouge 540 offers greater value for money between the two.

Overall Scent

I would say that both perfumes are excellent when comparing the overall scent. While one is more floral ambery, the other is more fruity yet masculine.

If I had to pick between the two, I would say that as a men’s fragrance, Aventus has the upper hand. Despite having an overwhelming opening, it develops well and smells absolutely divine.

But since Baccarat Rouge 540 is a unisex fragrance, it has more applicability. It also smells really refreshing and cozy.

Even though I can see many people opting for Aventus, particularly men, I would say that I like the overall scent of Baccarat Rouge much better.

So, for me, Baccarat Rouge 540 is the winner in terms of overall scent.

Final Verdict

It is not easy comparing two very popular, widely loved fragrances – especially when they have little in common. But when you take into account their performance, overall scent, and value for the price, it is possible to draw a conclusion.

When I took all the factors into consideration, I found Baccarat Rouge 540 to be the winner.

But that doesn’t mean Aventus is any less than this perfume. It also has excellent performance and overall scent. Many people swear by the scent of Creed Aventus!

So, ultimately, the choice is in your hands. Since they are both incredible perfumes, neither one is a loss – it’s a win-win situation.
